Self-catering in Carlingford, for the whole group at once
Most places in Carlingford put a large party into two or three separate lets, or into rooms scattered along a corridor. Carlingford Heights does the opposite: one house, six bedrooms, twenty beds, one kitchen and one big living room with a fire in it. Everybody eats together, everybody sits together, and nobody is texting the other half of the group to ask where they have got to.
That is the whole case for the lodge, and it is why it gets booked for the occasions that only work when the group is under one roof — family gatherings, milestone birthdays, hen weekends, walking and cycling groups, and the reunion everyone has been promising each other for a year.
Half a mile above the village, with the lough in front of you
The lodge sits at Mountain Park on the slopes above Carlingford, looking out over Carlingford Lough with Slieve Foy rising behind. The village centre is about half a mile away — ten to fifteen minutes downhill on foot, a steadier climb back.
That distance does two useful things. You can walk down to the pubs and restaurants and walk home again, which matters for a group. And you are far enough up the hill to get the view and the quiet that you do not get from a house on the main street.
What is in the house
Six bedrooms, two of them en-suite, plus a main bathroom. A large open-plan kitchen and living area with a fireplace, set up to cook for a full house rather than for two. A balcony along the lough side with patio furniture and a swinging chair, and a deck at the front facing the mountains. Wi-Fi throughout, and ample parking for a group arriving in several cars. What it costs
The house is let whole: €2,100 a weekend or €3,200 for a full week, with 10% added over bank holidays. A €300 deposit secures the dates and a €300 refundable damage waiver applies. Split across a group, that usually lands well under a room each in the village. Full terms are on the booking page.
Carlingford, and what there is to do
Carlingford is a medieval village on the Cooley Peninsula, between the mountains and the lough, with a castle, a harbour, a greenway, an adventure centre and a dozen places to eat inside a few hundred metres.
